As you’re possibly aware since 2013 Google have made all their site 100% SSL. This forced so you cannot view none encrypted sites to ensure your browsing safety.

They have just announced that they want the internet to be a safer place with websites adopting SSL certificates. With this in mind they have now stated that they will use HTTPS as a ranking signal, although it a weak signal they are also stating that they may change this to a stronger signal in the future.
