PHP 7 the biggest release since V5
Like most of us we are always chasing website speed, faster load times and use less resources to make our sites slicker and quicker. Well here is the all new PHP7.
The top 2 advantages of using PHP7
- Its twice as fast, allowing more than 2 times the amount of processes
- Less memory
This is great news if you’re a WordPress, Joomla, Magento, Drupal or in fact any site that uses php as your site will load faster while accepting more visitors.
You shouldn’t have any issues switching your site to PHP7 providing that you have kept all your plugins, modules, themes up to date as it is backward compatible (within reason)
If you have a paid plugin that uses ioncube loader, make sure its compatible with PHP7
It really easy to switch, just go to your cPanel account –> Software –> Select PHP Version
Once in the PHP page select PHP version 7 and click the set to current button.
At the bottom of the page hit the use defaults button, this will select the popular php extensions needed, however you can set your customised requirements, then hit save.
In the top right of the page you will see Switch to php options, here you need to ensure that you have selected 512MB memory, apply then save.

If you make any of these changes and anything doesn’t work as it should you can always switch back to your previous version of PHP.
